| Dear Readers, Due to my extremely busy schedule I would just like to put it out there that I will not be updating Xanga very often in this next phase of my life. I may even sometime in the future be phasing it out. It seems like fewer and fewer people post less and less, and I find that other things get prioritized. This saddens me, because it is mainly my dear friends from camp who I am in contact with here, and this is a part of my life that I very much want to stay connected with. However, I can't do everything, and time moves on....we gain new friends, we come into new situations, and we can't keep up with everything we want to. Also, with the nature of what I am going to become, the less I have "out there" in cyberspace the better. I would like to make clear that I care deeply about the people on Xanga, and I want to know about what's going on in all of your lives, but we can be connected in other ways too, such as Facebook. If you really would like to continue hearing about what's going on with me, please check my other blog on livejournal.com. My name on there is violetpoetess (http://violetpoetess.livejournal.com). Thank you all for your support and love. Peace, Lydia | | |
| Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. Afterwards, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.
I got "V" Yes, I know, It was rather challenging, but I think my list will prove satisfactory.
1. Violet. Yes, this one seems like a no-brainer. I live, breathe, exist purple. Half of the things I own are purple. Violet is pretty much just a pretty way to say purple.
2. V-Day. This includes everything with it: Vulvas, The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler, pretty much the whole V-Day package. I loved celebrating V-Day this last year, especially learning more about women's issues around the world.
3. Values. Values are very important for people to have if they are going to make a difference in this world. In the words of an old country singer "You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything."
4. Velcro. Its just cool! It's sticky, but not sticky. Brilliant!
5. Verse. Poetry in all forms--iambic pentameter, sonnet, limerick, ballad, free--I love this creative form of expression in all its guises.
6. Voice. People can facebook and email all they want, but in the end, when I really want to talk to someone, I want to hear their VOICE.
7. Virginia Woolf. Everyone should someday read "A Room of One's Own." It's a bit rambly, but well worth teasing out the message.
8. V For Vendetta. A great movie about what it means to think for yourself and to fight for your right of freewill.
9. Viola form Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. A totally independent woman who dresses up like a man in order to survive and ends up falling in love with her employer, who is in love with a duchess who, in turn, is in love with the disguisedViola. A delightful play.
10. The letter V itself. So simple, so VERSATILE. It can also mean the number 5 in Roman numerals, and also the letter "n" in Greek.
That was fun. Who's next?
| So much has occured in the last week, I will try to breifly recap:
FRIDAY We left our appartment early in the morning to drive all the way to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, to take my drivers test, which, I am happy to say, I passed. After Beau breathed a huge sigh of relief and I chucked the car keys at him ( I had driven the last 2 and half hours) we drove to my parents house and started packing up our stuff.
SATURDAY Morning spent packing. In the afternoon we drove with my family to Green Bay where my cousin Clint got married. It was so funny, during the sermon the pastor no sooner thanked the Lord for the cool breeze (they got married outside and it was HOT) than the bride's cathedral-length veil blew straight up in the air! Highly amusing.
SUNDAY At my home church I found out that my pastor is retiring next year. I asked the councel president (a good friend of my mom) if I could preach a Sunday or two in the in-between time, she said "Sure!" and later wanted to know if I could preach sometime BEFORE the end of the year, which is cool. After church was my graduation party, along with my cousin Kevin who just graduated from high school. Major packing in the evening.
MONDAY Drove to the Cities. Unloaded the car and truck (Beau did an AMAZING packing job!) Got our couch and a nice table and chairs. Lydia-Ann helped again, which was way cool.
TUESDAY Unpacking and opened up a checking account at Wells Fargo.
WEDNESDAY Officially changed my name to Nelson at the Social Security Office and then got a parking ticket.
TODAY More upacking. Beau has so many books!!!!
| We've finally moved into our apartment here at Luther Seminary! It's on the third floor, but it is very cozy and nice, with a sizable study and decent sized kitchen. It will definitly work well for 2 seminarians. We've already purchased a nice desk and yesterday both our new bed (very comfy!) and new laptop came. The moving-in mess is slowly getting cleaned up, but next week it will get worse: we are headed back to Wisconsin for my cousin's wedding and my graduation party this weekend, and that next Monday we are moving all of my stuff and more wedding gifts back here. I've also "officially" changed my name, at least according to Luther Sem. Yesterday we also went and got our photo IDs taken, and it's in the Luther system to change my last name to Nelson. But finally having our own space has been really nice so far. It really makes me realize that I'm all "growed up" now, all graduated, married, and about to attend grad school that will prepare me for my future job/vocation. | | |
| The MN reception up here was waaaaaaaaaay cooler than the one right after the wedding. I wore the dress again and I actually didn't feel like I was going to overheat! :) So many people from Beau's younger days came by and told him how proud they were of him, becoming a pastor, getting married and all that. The food was just as good as it was at the other reception--Beau's stepmom and her mom really stepped up to make things go so smoothly. This week Beau and I are staying at his sister and brother-in-law's house while the family is in Myrtle Beach. Tomorrow is our last day here--on Friday we pick up our Penske truck from Fargo and haul Beau's stuff (junk :) ) out of his mom's garage, and on Saturday we finally move into our apartment in St. Paul!! We're so excited to finally have a place of our own, to call home form more that 9 months at a time. We won't have a computer until we go back to WI for my cousin's wedding on Aug. 10th, so it might be a while. But I WILL update once we're moved in!!! | | |
